Noxious Weed Management

BSOA Services » Noxious Weed Management

Did you know noxious weeds are encroaching on your own last best place?

Knapweed and oxeye daisy, among other noxious weeds, are rapidly spreading along the Gallatin River, on nearby trailheads and in the Big Sky area, replacing the native vegetation and scenic beauty we all love.

Noxious weeds are often described as a raging biological wildfire-they can spread quickly, especially in disturbed areas. Weeds can drastically affect plant/animal communities, damage the watershed, increase soil erosion and negatively affect recreation. The ecological damage is often permanent and Montana laws require you to remove noxious weeds from your property.

As a property owner in BSOA, you are responsible for managing all noxious weeds on your property.

The BSOA Board of Directors recognizes the growing problem and has taken several steps to help eliminate the spread of noxious weeds in the BSOA jurisdiction. Administratively, the Snow and Noxious Weed Road Management Resolution has been amended to include winter road maintenance and noxious weed management.

Your assessments help to pay for area wide noxious weed management in BSOA Open Spaces and along public road right-of ways within the BSOA jurisdiction. BSOA has hired Joe Nowakowski of Big Sky Noxious Weed Management                    (406-995-2617 or lrcco@aol.com) to manage weeds in our road right of ways.
