The BSAC is given its authority through the Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (CC&R's) of the many subdivisions that comprise the BSOA's area of jurisdiction. The Big Sky Owner's Architectural Design Manual was officially adopted in July of 1987 and was written to provide guidance for quality building and thoughtful development in a community expected to increase in popularity.
In 1993, the BSOA Board passed a Resolution formally recognizing the creation of the BSAC as an inherent part of the Association's overall mission. The resolution also authorized the hiring of necessary resources to staff the BSAC under the management of BSOA.
Created in the original Big Sky CC&R's (Meadow Village, Sweetgrass Hills, and Cascade) the BSAC is directed to consist of seven persons. Three members are appointed by "Big Sky", now Big Sky Resort (majority land owner at the time); two members are appointed by the BSOA Board of Directors, and two members are appointed by a majority vote of the BSOA Membership. BSAC Board terms are consistent with BSOA Board of Director terms and last three years. We are always looking for BSOA members with a genuine interest in residential architecture, landscape planning, engineering, or design to run for office. The current BSAC is comprised of:
Brian Wheeler, Committee Chair, Director of Real Estate and Development for Big Sky Resort, and Big Sky Appointment; Doug Kremer, Landscaper and Big Sky Appointment; Elliott Iszler, Contractor and Big Sky Appointment; Rumsey Young, BSOA Board of Directors Appointment Mary Michelle "Mitch" Furr, BSOA Board of Directors Appointment Kenny Holtz, Elected Member; and Stacy Ossorio, Elected Member
Michele Geppert staffs the BSAC and can be contacted at michele@bigskyoa.org
The BSAC meets between 1 and 2 times per month depending upon the current construction activity in the BSOA jurisdiction. The Committee is guided by a routinely updated Design Regulation written with the intent to meet the same goals originally proposed: to provide guidance for quality and thoughtful design and construction of property improvement in Big Sky's progressive development environment.
